An Outing With My Best Friend

Hi Everybuddy!

I got to have a little outing with my best friend Maggie today.  We had lunch and then went for a little walk in the park.

We did this very nice pose on a bench.  Don't you think so?

We found something very good to smell right here.

Look how coordinated my outfit is with these pink flowers!

After lunch and a walk, I was tired and ready to head home in my basket.
I love to basket ride!!!

I hope you are having nice weather wherever you are!

The Woof Pack

Hi Furiends!

My BFF Maggie and I are thinking about starting a doggy gang.  Her Mom bought us these super cool matching black zip-up hoodies.  Don't we look awesome!  We are thinking of getting them embroidered with our club name:  The Woof Pack!!!  Or maybe with our initials, just like Laverne and Shirley!

Speaking of shopping, my Mommy went on a little shopping spree the other day.  She says she bought some stuff for me, but she won't tell me what it is.  I can't wait to find out!!!  Perhaps it will be delivered by my very own courier service:

I don't remember starting a courier service, but I guess I must have.  Does anybuddy need anything delivered??

A Playdate With My Bestest Friend!

Hi Everybuddy!

I had a super-fun playdate on Saturday with my bestest friend in the whole world!  Maggie is so tiny and cute.  I just love her.  She is such a good jumper and she loves to get up in the planter boxes.  I wanted her to come down and play with me, since I'm not such a good jumper and I can't really get up in the planter boxes.  Eventually she came down and we played a little bit of chase and also found some sticks to chew on.  This was Maggie's first stick chewing experience!

Mommy made a scrapbook page about our fun afternoon.  I hope you like it!

Pee Ess:  On the scrapbook page, Mommy used the Color My Love kit by Katie Pertiet, Dog Park Classic Cardstock by Katie Pertiet, Fanciful Felt Trims by Pattie Knox, and I Am A C Glitter Alpha by Libby Pritchett.

Me and My Best Friend

Hi Furiends!

I had a playdate on Friday with my best friend Maggie.  It was part playdate and part celebration of her One Year Found Day!  Her Mommy and Daddy found and rescued her from a busy street one year ago.  What a happy day that was for Maggie, and for her parents, too.

She came over to my house and we played in the backyard.  We did some ambling and some chasing.  It was a great day because it was the first time we played chase where Maggie wasn't running because she was a tiny bit scared of being chased by me--she was running for the pure fun of it!  We were really playing well together!  After we played chase, Maggie found a slug to roll in!

When we were bored with the backyard, we went on a walk to the park.  It was a nice warm sunshiny "Indian Summer" day.  Look at us walking together like buddies!

At the park we did a little more ambling.  Maggie rode on a swing with her Mommy!  I tried it too, but it wasn't really my thing.  In this picture you can see that we are "crossing the streams" like in Ghostbusters!

I hope you had a very nice weekend too!  I've got to go now because it's almost time for my Howloween photo shoot.  Did you guess what I'm going to be?  I'll give you another clue: I'm going as a type of fruit!  Bye for now!

Basket Ride!

Hi Furiends!

I went on a basket ride today with my good friend Maggie. The weather was a tiny bit cool, so we brought our fuzzy blankets with us just in case. We each rode in our own basket. I like to ride in front, and Maggie was very gracious to let me and my Mommy take the lead for most of the ride. If someone tries to pass me, I get a little loud and yarpy!

A Playdate With My Friend

Hi Everybuddy!

I had a really fun playdate yesterday with my friend Maggie.  She is so tiny and I love her!  Sometimes Mommy has to remind me that she is smaller than me and that I shouldn't run up and push my face into her face because she might be scared.  This is hard for me to understand because usually I am the smallest dog.  I sometimes forget that I'm bigger than her.

One of our favorite things to do together is play chase around the backyard.  We are very zoomie.  Maggie is pretty fast.  If I didn't have back problems, I would be as fast as her though, and don't you forget it!

I will catch up to you, Maggie!  Boing boing zoom zoom ruuuuuuunnnnn!!!  Daddy says, "Not so fast Poppy!  You don't want to hurt your back!"

Phew!  That was fun!  Did I catch you?  Or did you stop?  Well, let's not quibble over details.

After running, it's good to have a little snack.  Our garden is overflowing and Daddy picked these produces for me!  (You know how I love produce.)  At least I thought they were for me, but then I didn't get to have hardly any!  Only one small cherry tomato!  I did my best to let everybuddy know what I wanted by scratching on this big tomato.

After snacks, we did sunbathing.  We are both very fond of sunbathing.  Maybe someday we will lie right next to each other in the sun like good bestest friends.  But for now, we will choose our own sunbathing spots.  I chose the dusty goldfine because it is a little bit soft.  Maggie chose the patio.  She was close to the water bowl for easy access.  Smart!

I hope you have a fun weekend with your family and friends!

Beach Day!!! (and Pawlympics Excitement)

Hello Furiends!

I had a very nice beach day with my friend Maggie that I want to tell you about.  We met for lunch at this place that has a very nice outdoor seating area for doggies and their peoples.  There were lots of other dogs there sitting on the ground.  Um, yes, on the ground.  What is up with that?  Maggie and I do not sit on the ground.  We sit on laps!

We both got to share a little bit of the lunches our parents were having.  I liked the artichoke hearts; Maggie wasn't so sure.  I also had some beans, of course.

After lunch, we went to the beeeeeach!!!  We got to run run run in the sand with our Daddies!

Somehow I got my nose all covered in sand.  Oops!  It's okay.  Mommy cleaned it off for me.

Oh, wait.  I think I know how I got sand all over my nose.  It was from all my frisbee chasing!  Look at me goooooo!!!

On a related note, I have decided to pawticipate in the Blogville Olympics 2012!  Any dog or cat can participate.  If you want to participate, you should hurry because you have to send in your picture soon.
http://petblogginggames.blogspot.com/
I have decided that I will pawticipate in two events.  I'm going to do the Frisbee/Discus (hosted by Pip) and Roaching and Rolling (hosted by Ruby and Penny).

I will use the pictures from my beach day for the frisbee event, and the pictures from when I rolled in something delicious for the roaching/rolling event.  I am excited to see everyone's pictures once the events start.  Hooray for the Pawlympics!!!

My Busy Summer Schedule

Hello Everybuddy!

Oh, gosh, I am so behind because I have been so busy!  Summer sure is great!  Let me tell you all about what I have been up to lately.

I had a playdate with my friend Maggie the week before last.  It was fun!  We met in her backyard and tried to play together, even though it was a veeeeery hot day.  We spent a lot of the time sitting in the shade on the patio.  I kept trying to get inside where I thought it would be cooler.  That's why I'm sitting by the door.

Once the shade hit the lawn, we decided it would be okay to go play on the grass.  We did a little bit of chase, but mostly we ambled.  Chihuahuas are very good at ambling.

Then on Monday, Mommy went to a special doggy store and got me a special treat!  It was a big butterfly cookie!
It was a little bit hard to eat at first because it was so big and hard.  But I worked at it and eventually I broke it into smaller pieces and I ate it all!

Then last week we did a big camping adventure.  It was so much fun!  I love camping!  We went to a beautiful place in the forest near the beach.  It's the best of everything!  It was a little bit chilly at night, but Mommy and Daddy do a good job of bundling me up when it gets cold.

The next day we went to the beach.  It is a special beach that has purple sand!  It was very windy, but we still had lots of fun.  I got to chew some sticks and run in the sand and have a picnic, too.

I hope you are having as nice a month as I am having!

Running Around the Big Square is Not Allowed

Hello Everybuddy!

Do you like softball?  I do!  It's so fun!  This is how you do softball:  you go to a big field with a fence around it and then you watch these silly people hit balls with a stick and run around a big square.  I am very good at this game.  It takes a lot of concentration to sit quietly though.  Sometimes I want to get up and run around the big square too.  This is NOT ALLOWED.  You must sit quietly.  I'm just a beginner, so sometimes I sit quietly, and sometimes I sit loudly.

My BFF Maggie is a very advanced softball player.  She knows how to sit and be very quiet.  I went to a game with her and we sat together on my Mommy's lap while her Mommy ran around the big square.  Maggie tried to show me how to be calm.  She's really good at it.  She's pretty advanced.  She's been playing softball for a while now.

In this picture you can see that we are both wearing sweaters.  That is because it is always cold at the big softball square.  You know what?  I think I might have to have our Mommies make us matching sweaters.  Wouldn't that be cool?!

When Mommy took this picture she said, "This is the cutest thing in the history of all cuteness!!!"

Playdate Fun!!!

Hi furiends!

This is my friend Maggie. We have been having regular playdates lately because our parents are tired of other big meanie dogs attacking us at the park. It's happened to each of us at least once, and let me tell you, it is No Fun At All! So now we get to have playdates in one of our backyards instead. One time we even had another chihuahua join us. He was just a puppy, so Maggie and I had to tell him who's boss (us, of course).

You can tell that I like Maggie a whole lot because I am letting her sniff my butt.  I don't to that very much at all.  Mostly I like other doggies to stay away from my rear end.  So this means I think she is pretty awesome!

Bye for now, and enjoy the sunshine!

Fort Funston, Leaf Walk, and Cuddling!

Last month we went to Fort Funston. (Yes, I said "last month" and I'm just now getting around to posting about it.) It was a super great day. The weather was so warm that I didn't even have to wear my jacket the whole time! We went down to the beach and when my feet hit the sand I totally freaked out! I tried to run in circles as fast as a tornado! I love the beach!!!!! I even met a new friend down there. I don't know his name, but he was really nice and we hit it off really well. In this picture you can see an action shot of us playing.

Before we left, Mommy and Daddy wrote my name really big in the sand. I tried to do a nice pose, but the beach is a very distracting place!

The other day we went on a fall leaf walk. Daddy took lots of pictures of the colorful leaves, and a couple of me too. Mommy really likes this fuzzy purple stuff.

Lately I have been doing a lot of aggressive cuddling, which means I squirm and wiggle until I get into the perfect position to maximize body contact and heat transfer. It has been super cold here!!!
I hope all my furiends can forgive me for my long absences from my blog and my lack of commenting. The truth is, Mommy has become a teeny bit obsessed with digital scrapbooking. So every time she is on the computer, she scrapbooks pictures of me instead of helping me check my blogs!

Waterfall Hiking!

Hello furiends! Look at me hiking!!!I love hiking! We went to a county park with lots of streams and waterfalls. Don't worry--I was careful not to get my feet wet! I got to walk about half of the time, and the rest of the time Mommy carried me in my orange backpack. I am slowly working my way back up to being a "trail dog." Before my back surgeries, I used to walk the whole way on our hikes. Now I can only do a little walking and mostly riding. But I still have fun!
This time we were hiking with friends, which we don't normally do. It turns out that I HATE riding when we are hiking with friends! I like to be in the front of the pack, and if I have to ride or walk in the back, I get very upset and mush like a sled dog until I can reach the front of the group. This, as you might imagine, is not so great for my back.

Mommy and Daddy did a bad thing last weekend. They went hiking without me! They went to a park that does not allow dogs. I can't imagine! So I cannot show you any pictures of me from this hike because I was not there! Humph!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

My Sense of Drama is Highly Developed

Hi friends,

As you can see, I'm still resting and recuperating from my back surgery. Sometimes I am restless and really want to get up and move around, and sometimes I am very sleepy, like this:
Mommy put a camping mattress on the floor so she could rest next to me. It puts her in the perfect position to rub my head constantly. Yay!

Last night Daddy noticed that it is really swollen along my back where the incision is. It's probably a seroma, which they told us could happen. It's supposedly not bad, but Mommy hates it and wishes it would go away! They are putting warm stuff on my back to help it feel better, like this warm washcloth in a plastic bag:

I am starting to feel more feisty and have taken to screaming any time someone tries to pick me up. Mommy and Daddy do not appreciate this; I'm not sure why. After all, when I scream, I usually get what I want! I'm not really in more pain now...it's just that I tend to be a little bit overdramatic. For example, the other day when Mommy said, "Poppy, do you want to go out?" I stood up and walked across the bed to her before she even knew what was happening--and no screaming at all! Of course, they didn't tell me that we were going to the v-e-t to get my sticky fentanyl patch removed!

I am really excited because tonight I might get to go out to dinner and see my long lost Uncle DJ, who I haven't seen in over six months! He is the one who doggysat me when Mommy and Daddy had to go to Cirque du Soleil after my last back surgery. Oh, I am excited!

Recovery, the Sequel

Hi Friends!

I am feeling pretty okay after my back surgery. Mommy and Daddy are really pleased because I am already way ahead of where I was in my recovery last time. Maybe even a whole week ahead, and it's probably because they caught it early this time. I can already be picked up and put down without screaming. And I can move my back legs and tail a little too!!!

Mostly I am feeling a little sad and am spending a lot of time resting in my bed:
I'm on pain meds and also a sedative, which is helping to keep me relaxed. I moan a lot, and the only thing that makes me stop is being close to Mommy and Daddy. I put my paw like this in her hand all by myself:

Yesterday morning Mommy took me outside to watch Daddy while he watered the garden and I was really happy to be out there looking around and smelling everything! I didn't moan or whine at all! I had such a good time, in fact, that they decided to take me out to a birthday party! This party is a yearly summer event for Mommy and Daddy's close friends' kids. They've been looking forward to going for a month now, and they were sad that they were going to have to miss it. But after I had such a good time outside in the back yard, they thought maybe they would take me--just for an hour or two.

So we packed up my pee pads and my stroller and my blankie and hit the road! I really did enjoy that party, even though I ended up moaning the whole time. It wasn't because I was in pain though--it was because I wasn't allowed to do anything! I had to just sit there and rest. But it was awesome because I got to see some of my best friends and everybody said, "oh, poor Poppy" and gave me gentle pets. And I really loved having some fun things to see and smell. (By the way, please excuse Mommy's slipper foot--she had toe surgery last week and this is the only shoe she can wear!)
It was fun, and boy was I tired when I got home!

Last night Mommy made me a treat Kong with crunchy foods and frozen peanut butter. I licked my way through the peanut butter, but I wasn't about to be tricked into eating crunchy foods at a time like this! It's wet treats all the way for me!

OMD!!!

I may have found out who I am!!! Well, I mean, I know who I AM, but I am not exactly clear on WHAT KIND OF DOG I am. I have always thought I am a chihuahua/???. For a while Mommy and Daddy thought I was a chihuahua/Italian greyhound. Ha. Here's a picture of an Italian greyhound, just so you can see how silly of an idea that is:

More recently they have thought that I am a chihuahua/some-kind-of-terrier. Maybe. Much more likely than an IG, I think.

But today, Mommy was following doggy bloggy links and she found this blog about dachsies. They just got a new foster who is a--get ready for this--a chiweenie! That's a chihuahua/dachshund mix! Don't you think Angel looks JUST LIKE ME?! Except for the color, I mean. Here is a picture of me for comparison:

This is a picture of me sitting side-saddle on my ramp while it is flat on the floor. I think you can see the bigness of my ears and the shortness of my legs in this picture. Plus, I'm really looooong, especially for a chihuahua. And we all know I have IVDD, which is totally a dachsie thing.

So what do you think, am a I chiweenie?

In other important news, I have received an award from my buddies Bijou and Banjo. They gave me the Honest Scrap Award. Here is what they told me about the award:

"When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to said person so everyone knows he or she is real. Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have 7 friends. Show the 7 random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Weblog”. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. List at least ten honest things about yourself. Then, pass it on!"

Here is the award:

Thank you so much Bijou (and Banjo too)! I've been waaaay behind on blogs lately, so I don't know who has this award already. I'll have to think some more about who to pass it on to. This is always the hardest part for me. :)

Monday Movie

I just found this great video of me and Sivan playing together in February of 2006. She is chasing her flying squirrel and I am trying to play too. This all happened before The Unpleasantness. If you haven't heard the story, here's the summary: Sivan and I are no longer allowed to have unsupervised visitation play time because once she tried to eat me.

This video was also taken before my injury. See how nimble and fast I am?

When this video was taken, we were on a trip to Fort Funston in the rain. I was wearing a fleece-lined raincoat, so I stayed kind of dry. Sivan doesn't have a coat though, so she got soooooo dirty and wet! She had to have a bath when we got back to her house.

Bye for now!

A Sad Day

I am sad today. My cousin Jasper died this morning. He was diagnosed with leukemia only about two weeks ago, on October 9th. He was a good boy and a good kitty. I will miss playing with him, which I did sometimes, even though he was much bigger and stronger than me.

I did not even get to say goodbye. But I will try to be brave because I know that he is at the Rainbow Bridge now with my brother Puck and my aunt Muffin.

Goodbye, Jasper. We will miss you.
