"I Want to Ride My Bicycle...

I want to ride my bike;
I want to ride my bicycle,
I want to ride it where I like!"

(Thank you to Queen for those brilliant and insightful lyrics.)

Last year I learned how to ride a bicycle, and it is now one of my favorite things to do! We ride out to the DP (Dog Park) or over to Grandma and Grandapa’s house. Sometimes we even ride along the ocean! Since basket riding (as I like to call it) is such a very fun thing to do, I will teach you all how to do it.

Step One: Make sure your Mommy has a bike. After you have made sure of that, put your basket right on the front where you can have the best view:

Step Two: When you get in your basket, make sure you are properly strapped in, because you do not want to fall out. See the red strap that goes through my harness?

When I am riding my bike I get so excited that sometimes I like to sit up very tall and put my paws over the front edge of the basket. This is okay, because remember, I am strapped in.

Step Three: Make sure you go to places where you can see all sorts of interesting things, like these geese:

Step Four: The Dismount: This picture was taken after a very windy bike ride along the ocean in Monterey (that's why I'm wearing a sweater). I was waiting very patiently to be taken out of my basket. Notice how I am being Very Good because I do not try to jump out before it is time. Do not ever jump out before it is time.

This completes our lesson in how to ride a bike. I hope you have enjoyed it. You are now ready to try it yourself!!! See you on the trails!

Bye for now,
Poppy

Pee-ess: if you are very large, like, say, Randi, you might need a much bigger basket. :)

Oh POPPY! Look at you! Just LOOK at you!!! That is the most awesome thing I've ever seen!!! Alas, I will never experience that joy, since riding a bike requires a small amount of physical activity, and I think my girl is completely incapable of that....

I love your basket! How awesome it that?!

Oh that is a very good lesson Poppy and I think you look awesome on your bike. That must be fun for you and your mum.

Us cats are not so trustworthy on bikes. I take mine out by myself when my mum is sleeping.

Poppy, that looks very fun! I am not sure if any cats can ride a bike, but I ride in a stroller. It is fun to feel the wind in your furs.

You are very good not to jump out before it is time. Thanks for the tips!

That reminds me of an old Pink Floyd song that Mom likes to sing that goes like this:

I've got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It's got a basket
A bell that rings
And things to make it look good

You would be the part that makes that bike look good! :)
I wish I could ride in a bike but I think MomDad would be more inclined to put me on their motorcycles than their bicycles. Yikes!

AWWWW! Poppy! My mom is going to buy a big 'ole flatbed - the kind you haul motorbikes on & stuff for me to ride ...but then I'd be behind...maybe my dad can get a motorcycle & I'll be in the little jumbseat next to it! That would be PAWSOME!
Love & Licks,
Randi
PS...thank you for thinking of us PLUS SIZED girls!

Whoa! That looks like a lovely ride. My ma ape claims I am too big for a basket. She's such a buzzkill.

Oh Poppy! You are just like ToTo in the Wizard of Oz! That basket looks like so much fun. You are a very good Poppy to behave so nicely for your ride!

Oh.my.Dog. Our mom just fell totally in love with you after looking at these pictures. You're such a cutie! We have two cousin chihuahuas and an uncle chihuahua and they're kinda mean to us. But you don't look mean at all! We're going to read your whole blog now. It's so nice to meet you!

That is really swell Poppy. You have a very clever guardian, I'll tell you what. I think I would be too nervous to ride in a basket like that. But, I admire your courage.

Love,

Rowan
